A long car ride later we were pulling off the exit to meet the people. I looked out the car window and I could see 2 women and 1 man standing beside a car with a cage and 3 puppies inside there. We hurried and parked and ran over to meet the people and my puppy. When I looked in the cage I was thinking "wtf none of these puppies are the one I picked out from the Internet." I was so annoyed. They had two Pomeranian/Yorkie mixed puppies and then just one Shorkie. But she wasn't the one I had picked out. I played with the puppies for a minute and they told me to decide which one I wanted. Even though the Poms were really playful and energetic I decided to go with the Shorkie because that's what I wanted all along.
Her temperament was very weird. She didn't move much on the car ride home- she didn't make a single noise and when I would pick her up she wouldn't flinch. When we dropped off my dad and his kids we let the puppy stretch a little. She could barley even walk and I got a feeling things weren't very good with her. I tried to give her some water but she wouldn't take any. We got back in the car and I held her all the way to my aunts house. I was picking up a free TV from her because my other roommate was moving out. She has a Yorkie and I figured I could ask her some questions about how they act and what theirs was like when they first brought him home.
Aunt Camille looked at the pup and was all "you should just make sure to take her to the vet, just in case something is wrong with her. Just make sure that you take her Monday." I started to freak out and get nervous that I had spent money on this dog that was going to die on me on the way home. GREAT. Just what I needed. On the last stretch of the long drive home I thought of names that I could name her. I was thinking CoCo or Chanel or Dolce or something like that.. (a total typical girl-dog name) but when I said Chloe I knew that was it. When I picked that name I thought it was a unique name but now I realize everyone and their dog is named Chloe (literally).
Well when Monday rolled around I took her to the vet and wasn't too worried she was kind of eating and I just figured the vet would tell me to watch her close. She only weighed about 1.2 pounds, she was all hair and no meat. The vet said I needed to give her a milk supplement in her food so that she could gain more weight and that I needed to chop up her food in a blender and mix it with baby food (it was a pain in the butt). Also she said the lump on her neck was just from the shot she had before I got her. We were almost done with the checkup when the vet found that Chloe had 2 hernias. This meant that if her intestines fell through the hole in her muscle that it could kill her- or that if I had to fix them it would be $1,500. Uh what was I supposed to do?? I didn't/DON'T have money for that kind of thing.
I called my mom crying-- she was not comforting. She just said "I told you so Ashlee." I didn't know what to do and the vet wanted to see her in 2 weeks for more shots. I fed her the way I was supposed to and helped to teach her how to walk (how sad is it that a little puppy couldn't even walk? She would just take a step and collapse-- it was depressing) When we went back in that 2 weeks she had gained weight and the doctor said that I was doing a good job as a 'mother' but her hernias were still there. We kept going to the vet for shots and check ups and one day when I went in there the vet looked at me with a smile and said, "Hey her hernias have healed up all by them self :)" I was soo happy.
All in all Chloe and me had our hard times (when she was lying on her death bed!!) and it really stressed me out because she was like a dogchild to me-- but now she is a rambunctious little dog. She has tripled in weight and size. She doesn't even look like her old self anymore. I call her my miracle dog :)......
Growing up a little more-- she could walk pretty good at this time.
My favorite picture ever-- Sam is laying down calmly while Chloe is chewing on her tail and Ozzie is humping her.
After bath time with mom!
Graduating from puppy school.
Chlo sleeping with Suzy-
Chloe at Dave's basketball game-- she is so cute. :)
This is why we call her Moppit Head. Her hair is out of control.
Poor puppy- getting tortured by Coco's hat.
TREATS!
She might look innocent but she is totally not... She is thinking, "Hey Aunt Lindsee you best be giving me that treat before I rip your freaking head off."
